Jammu is also known as City of Temples, there are lot of temples and shrines in Jammu, some of these are Raghunath Temple, Ranbireshwar Temple, Peer Kho Cave Temple, Bawey Wali Mata, Mahamaya Temple etc. Jamuu is also the gatway to Kashmir from Punjab region and is the gatway to Mata Vaishno Devi Temple most popular hindu shrine. Jammu is J & K's second largest city and its winter capital, nestled at the foothills of the Pir Panjal mountain range of the majestic Himalayas. A beautiful & enchanting river called Tawi flows through the city.

It is believed that the name of the city had been derived form the name of the king , whose name was Jamboo Lochan. One of his hunting campaigns he reached the Tawi River where he saw a goat and a lion drinking water at the same place at same time. The king was impressed and he decided to build a city on this soil after his name, Jamboo. With the passage of time, the name was corrupted and became "Jammu". Jammu was always a prosperous city and was ruled by many. The Afghans and the Mughals also ruled over Jammu and eventually was handed over to the Sikh chieftain Maharaja Gulab Singh.
