Bikaner, a desert town is in the north of Rajasthan, The city was founded by Rao Bika Ji, son of Rao Jodhaji of Jodhpur in 1486. He  had chosen a barren wilderness called ’Jangladesh’ and transformed it to a charming city called ’Bikaner’, after the founder’s name. Ever since the foundation of Bikaner till its accession into Indian union, Bikaner has always played an important role in the history of the country. Bikaner has produced several able generals and warriors and distinguished rulers. The most important of them was Akbar's general Raja Rai Singhji. Raja Anup Singh's tenure, who ascended the throne in 1669A.D, has been described as the golden time of Bikaner's fame and valor. Bikaner is famous for its "Bikaneri Bhujia" (spicy snacks made from moth dal and edible oil), sweets, handicrafts, leather articles, palaces, forts and for having Asia's biggest camel farm. The old city is encircled by 7 km long city wall with five entrances gates.
