Aurangabad the capital city of the Marathwada region of Maharashtra. It is an important city in the state of Maharashrta, It sees a lot of international tourist traffic due to world heritage sites, Ajanta & Ellora caves.The city is surrounded by hills. Aurangabad named after Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.Aurangabad has always been an important city throughout the history of Maharashtra. The heritage of Aurangabad is linked with different rulers. The city, originally called Khadke, or "Big Rock", There was a village named Kirki (Khadki) where the city stands today. It is believed that the city was founded in 1610 by Malik AmbarMalik Ambar was the Prime Minister of Murtaza Nizam Shah II of Ahmednagar, the then ruler of the Deccan, it was central parts of Southern India. It is widely believed that city took shape between 1604 and 1610 under Malik Ambar's rule. Initially, it was named Fatehpura (city of Victory), probably after Malik's son Fateh Khan.
The city rose to prominence towards the end of the 17th century, when Aurangazeb decamped here from Delhi to subdue the Marathas. After his death the city was renamed as Aurangabad in his honour. The modern name of the city was probably taken after his death. Aurangzeb's tomb is situated at Khultabad, a small town near the city.The weather of Aurangabad is temperate with moderate winters (November-February) and summers (April-June). This region experiences good southwestern monsoon rains in June-September.
